The octopus arabesque pattern
is old enough to be seen in ceramics
from the Song Dynasty of China
about a thousand years ago.

It is a kind of arabesque pattern,
and leaves are simply attached to
the outside of the vine that spirals.

It is called
"the octopus arabesque pattern "
because it is just like
the legs of an octopus.

It became popular in Japan
during the Edo period and
has been loved by the people.
